It's Monday! What are you reading? (6)

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is where we share what we read this past week, what we hope to read this week…. and anything in between! This is a great way to plan out your reading week and see what others are currently reading as well… you never know where that next “must read” book will come from! Hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

While I didn't expect to get to read at all this week, I managed to finish the Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. A review will follow soon, since I only finished it last night. Tomorrow I will first post a review of Ordinary Beauty by Laura Wiess, which I read a few weeks back. If you are curious, please check back tomorrow :)

In the past week I posted a review of The Art of Forgetting by Camille Noe Pagan and I started cleaning my shelves of (Dutch) books that I want to give a second home.

The following books entered my home last week:
Room by Emma Donoghue which I got from the library.
Two books by Susan Smit about witchcraft that I got from Duurzaam Sparen because she wanted to give them a second home.
Luna by Julie Anne Peters which I got in a RAK from Joli from Actin' Up with Books. Thank you so much Joli!

I am planning to read Room first and then probably Luna. I am reading from my own stash lately, since I already have such busy weeks for a while now, I really want to read what speaks to me at that moment. So the Galley's remain untouched for the time being since I am really in the mood for actually holding a book and curl up in my chair. I do feel somewhat guilty about it since some books are coming out pretty soon. But I really feel that I need to do what is good for me and not put on more pressure on myself until the busy weeks are over. Only 2 more till my blocked week! (a week I reserved for just relaxing and celebrating my staycation, since I don't actually go on vacation.)

Does reading still feels like relaxing to you or does it feel like a chore sometimes? How do you make sure it doesn't become a chore instead of relaxing?

  1. See, I knew you'd finish The Book of Negroes quite quickly! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

I'm a bit jealous because I still haven't read Room. Hope you enjoy it!

  2. I'm looking forward to reading your review of The Book of Negroes.

I still find reading fun and relaxing and start to get antsy if I don't get enough reading time in a day. I find that if I get too many deadlines that I can't meet or get overwhelmed with a lot of book reviews all at once it can start to feel like a chore. I'm always careful to give authors realistic expectations as to when I think I will get the review posted (as opposed to telling them what I think they want to hear) and I don't accept anything for review that I wouldn't want to read any other time.
