Summary:
From Goodreads:
"At the age of eighteen, Angela Balcita had reached a point in her life when her health could not keep up with her optimistic personality. After suffering kidney failure and after her body's rejection of the kidney her brother donated to her, she was in desperate need of a transplant.

Lucky for Angela, she had found the ultimate partner in crime: her boyfriend, Charlie. Although they had known each other for only a short period of time, Charlie offered Angela his kidney. The ensuing story is unforgettable, with readers following Angela and Charlie's journey through preparations for their respective surgeries; the procedures themselves, difficult yet emotionally riveting; the process of recuperation through the relapses; and the eventual healing—both inside and out—that greets this undeniably powerful duo."

Personal opinion:
I read this book over the course of a week mainly because I was very busy during the week and not because the book wasn't interesting. It was quite the opposite. It was light enough to return to, but not so light that I would lose interest. Even though a kidney disease is a heavy subject, the story didn't feel like it. It was actually a quite endearing read. Next to the details of Angela's disease, it also focusses on Angela's insecurities. The couple does go through plenty of hardships and the ending isn't perfect but that makes this book different from a novel. This is real, and real life never is perfect, no matter how much we want it to be. I loved the optimistic tone of this book and it made me feel good in the end. I would recommend this for people who want to read a real romance story instead of a sappy one. You won't be disappointed.

I liked it!

  1. Glad you liked it, Uniflame. It was a light read, as you say, but still interesting. Often real-life isn't as interesting as a story, but in this case, it made a perfect story.
