Summary:
From Goodreads:
"Artist, mail-order Reverend, and all-around creative type Rev Jen is known for sporting elf ears and being curator of a Troll Museum inside her sixth-floor walkup apartment on the lower east side of New York City. She counts among her accomplishments being creator and host of “Anti-Slam,” an open-mike series where everyone gets a perfect ten (which The Village Voice calls “performance meets cry for help”), and working as a Christmas Elf at Bloomingdales. Now, this anti- Sex and the City girl and cheerleader for nonconformists, geeks, and oddballs of the world delivers a funnier, quirkier version of I Was Told There’d Be Cake or The Idiot Girls’ Action-Adventure Club . She’s zany, eccentric, and hopeful, and her unchecked candor makes her impossible not to love, as she recounts various tales from her colorful life."

Personal opinion:
I picked this up because I thought I would enjoy reading about a fellow geeky artist. The first few chapters were funny and I even laughed out loud a few times so things started off promising. I liked the quirkiness of the way Rev deals with life in the beginning but as I continued, it just became exhausting. I couldn't believe that someone can act like this ALL the time and after a few more chapters where my dislike for the story kept growing, I gave up and decided that I wouldn't finish this book. It was just too much for me, and I am pretty quirky myself but I just didn't buy it.

Bwah! I didn't like it!

  1. It sounds like the kind of book that you don't need to finish in one go, but rather one you pick up only once every so often to read 1 or 2 chapters... so the funniness stays? :)

I'm not sure though, since I'm not exactly sure what sort of quirkiness this writer/girl is up to? ;)

  2. Hmmm.. I am not sure... I mean, it does kinda follow each other so there is a kind of story line. I didn't find it interesting enough to return to anyway :)
