Tag booklet

For school I had to make a little "booklet". You first had to finish sentences and from there you had to make you personal booklet. I choose to make a booklet out of tags.

I worked with inks on the tags and pasted images and words on it that spoke to me.

On the first tag it says "Beautifly". I see the butterfly as a symbol for transformation. Also: My mother collects butterflies.

My dad collected owls. Words say: "He lives in me"

The words on the left tag are qualities that other my classmates see in me. On the right tag, there is a very creative kitty at work ;) I am actually very happy with this tag booklet. (which I bound together after I took the pictures.) The colors are much brighter, so the pictures don't do it justice. Even though it are only little tags, it took me about 4 hours in total to make this booklet. And that is excluding the time the inks needed to dry. Sometimes I think I put too much time in my homework, but I love doing it so much :)

Spring bookmarks

It took me a while but I finally made a new set of bookmarks. I started on these a few weeks ago, but I got sick. Today I finally finished them. It are Spring themed bookmarks again with birds, flowers and leaves.

First I worked on the background with acrylics. Green for the first layer and yellow for a second layer.

Then I pasted pieces of paper onto the bookmark in the shape of a bird, flower or leaf. And painted over that with another layer of yellow. I stamped some birds, flowers and hearts onto the bookmarks. Lastly I wrote some words on a green paper with a neon green gel pen and pasted that as well.
They are now laying under a pile of big books, so they should not curl up anymore after a few days. I made these bookmarks for the Literary Giveaway Blog Hop, I will be joining this weekend. So If you want to win this set of bookmarks, come back here next Saturday to enter the giveaway. I will be giving away a book on creativity too, but I won't tell you which book yet ;)

Experimenting with watercolor tags

I had some white paper tags laying around, waiting to be worked on. Yesterday I decided to paint a few with watercolor to see how that would go. I decided to go for a spring pallet (since I am longing for spring), using yellows & blues to create greens. I only have 6 colors (2, reds, 2 blues & 2 yellows) so I have to mix everything myself. I made the paper wet, using a natural sponge like I learned on school. (back side first, then front, back again to remove bubbles and turn). Then I just let the colors flow into each other on paper. I find this an exciting technique to use since you never know what you will create.

The paper didn't like the treatment very much though. I guess this paper isn't really suited for this technique since it got bubbly. The back of the tags were also colored in the progress and a spotty pattern had formed. I only filled in the blank spots later. I let them dry and when they were almost dry I got out a big pile of books and placed them on top of the tags. This morning the bubbles were less visible and I continue to work on them with gel pens and stamps.

This is how they turned out in the end. The first one is a combination of a gel pen and a stamp. The middle one is only done with the gel pen and the last looks much like the first but I tracked over the stamp with the gel pen. I think I have a lot to improve on the techniques. Maybe I should try acrylics instead but I think it should be possible to do this with watercolor too since I have seen watercolor tags before. At least they look cheerful :)
